Lake Trout (Salvelinus Namaycush)
Lake trout are members of the salmon family. They are usually grayish in colour, darkker on top fading to a white belly, with lighter speckles on their sides. They average 16-25 inches and 3-10 lbs, but they can attain very large sizes, weighing over 50 lbs.
Lake Trout inhabit deep, cold water. They tend to stay at depths of 50 feet or more. During the winter snd esrly spring they can be found at shallower depths. Although they are only native to the northern parts of North America, they have been introduced around the world.
Their diet can range from plankton to other fish depending on what's available in a particular lake. They spawn in late autumn.
During the open water season, deepwater trolling with spoons or inline spinners is best. During the ice season a jig and minnow is recomended.
